Cocktail is the pretty well of human relations. It's a lot of fun to watch three different characters live together, share their lives and gradually develop a strong bonding. Cocktail follows the basic Bollywood genre-geometry of a love triangle. The good part about this one, unlike most love triangles, is that the
three protagonists get to know the love for each other very earlier in the picture and the revelation isn't extended till the climax. Saif Ali Khan always play great role in Romance. He slips into the romantic characters, playing the uber-cool guy with elegance. This movie is about love and friendship.
Though it is not an innovative subject for Hindi movies but it depends on the plot of the movie, to give it an image. The twist in the romance comes when the trio seems blissful in each other's company, is living together under one roof and then the unthinkable and unimaginable happens, cupid strikes. The man
falls in love with his girlfriend's best friend.
Veronica gets a random stranger Meera home and they become the best friends. Meera is very innocent at heart and also an introvert, while Veronica is a wild-child. Though they have lot of dissimilarity to each other but they get close within days. Gautam [Saif Ali Khan], who has an affair with Veronica and starts living with her. It's a no commitments relationship. Meera, however, dislikes Gautam. But the unthinkable happens: Gautam and Meera fall in love.
COCKTAIL actually is the mixture of three contradictory characters: Saif is crazy and outrageous, Deepika is intense and wild and Diana is calm and undemanding. But these differences does not present any hurdle in the path of Love, lust, laughter and of course, this is called Cocktail. Whip and ruffle up the three and the title seems completely justified.
Homi Adajania, the director greatly manage the follow of characters and handle the sequences of situation with handiness. We can think of it as COCKTAIL is a complex film, which reflects the complexity and particulars of human relationships. The theme of the film is the three sharply defined characters,
besides, of course, the styling and visuals. But the justification between the portions of the picture is not seemed equally. If the first hour is absorbing, fascinating and pleasurable, hitting the right notes when required, the second hour is half as exciting as the first.
Saif and Deepika team up for the third time after the movies like LOVE AAJ KAL and AARAKSHAN, and the chemistry and comfort between the actors is definitely obvious. Saif has that flair for rom-coms and Homi reflect the Delhi color into his character, which makes his character over all more notable. Saif fits
into his character smoothly and leaves a deep-seated impression. The scene stealer is, without doubt, Deepika, who not only looks beautiful, but show her career-best performance. She lets herself deeply indulge in her character wholly and nails the performance. It's an extremely appreciating role.
Diana Penty given a character that is quite easy to fall in love with, Diana adds her own charm to deliver what is easily the most-lovable performance of the year. She looks absolutely beautiful. There's a very charming kind of innocence that she brings to the role and she impresses a great deal. Dimple Kapadia is in terrific form, portraying the atypical North Indian lady with passion. Boman Irani is first-rate, especially in sequences with Dimple. Randeep Hooda's character is under-nourished.
Overall, Cocktail is a fun watch, with great music, humor and tremendous performances. The target audience is the urban youth, as the film has very little to offer for the 'mass' single-screen audience.
